Does anyone else out there collect game used football helmets? It's by far and away my favorite collectible. I'd take a game worn helmet over a jersey most days. The two major problems in collecting helmets for me are A) storage; they're big, and where to put them all? And B) display, how and where to display them? If you've got two or three helmets it's easy to find space on a bookcase in an entertainment room, or on an office desk, etc.. When you've got literally dozens of helmets, where do you put them, and how do you display them. Andy has a dedicated bedroom in his house for his gear, including the closet. Matt has an entire basement/sports room/museum space dedicated to his gear with approximately 600 sq feet of display space, with another 150 sq ft of storage space. I just moved to Michigan and still need to build a sports room/bar for the display of my gear. It's now stored in an old fruit cellar. If you collect game worn helmets and have them displayed, send us pictures of your displayed gamers at [email protected] and we'll post them here on our blog.
A small portion of our vintage Gopher football memorabilia is now available for your viewing pleasure. While we are mainly, Gopher football game used football gear collectors, we are also avid collectors of rare and/or vintage Gopher football memorabilia. A number of you have asked to see this part of our collection as well. We'll start with a few pieces and add to it as we have time. Go to the our collection page tab to take a look.
The Gophers opted for their maroon jerseys w/ gold pants for the win over MTSU last Saturday. Next weekend brings us our biggest game to date in this early part of the season vs TCU. Will we see the new gold helmets???
Thanks to our friend Eric Jacques, we've acquired some important 2012 items. One jersey of each style, and a 2012 helmet. Go to the our collection page to check them out. Go Gophers, beat MTSU!
While working on our uniform history page (92-95 uniform section), I fondly remembered how crazy those Apex jerseys were, and somehow wishing this company was still around to at least provide with an alternate jersey. Kind of like the Minnesota Twins turn ahead the clock jerseys. Not for the season mind you, just one game, to be auctioned off afterwards. Here's a look back at some of the Apex One brand jerseys used in the Big Ten. Apex also made jerseys for other schools such as Arkansas and others that I don't recall at the time, and at least 5 NFL teams, including the Dallas Cowboys famous double star jersey still used on Thanksgiving Day. Apex folded in early 95 and the Gophers actually removed the Apex patch, while some schools replaced the Apex patch with another company logo who was then supplying their jerseys (see the Badger's jersey above with the Starter patch sewn on).
www.gopherjerseys.com is taking off to new heights. We just added a new, much, much improved uniform history page. Most pages should be at least 95% accurate and complete. A few pages are still under construction as this type of research can take a long time, and provide to be tedious at best. Either way, check out the new uniform history page in our links tab and explore the massive, and incredible detailed history of your favorite teams unis in words and pictures.
We are also working on adding a new area to our game used section, and a vintage memorabilia page. Look for updates in the coming days! |
